Ashcroft grew up in Skelmersdale, Lancashire. His father died when Richard was 11. Ashcroft soon fell under the influence of his stepfather, who belonged to the Rosicrucians. He formed The Verve in 1989. After that band's demise in 1999, Ashcroft embarked on a successful solo career, before reuniting again with The Verve in June 2007.

Nick McCabe was the youngest of three children and was strongly influenced by music growing up. He led a normal life training to be a Quantity surveyor until, after leaving Haydock High School, he met Richard Ashcroft at Winstanley Sixth Form College in Winstanley, near Wigan, Lancashire. Ashcroft heard McCabe's guitar jamming and thought McCabe could "almost make the guitar talk".

Instrument - Bass
Most of the rhythm aspects of the Verve's albums, were based around the complex songwriting of the band, supported by the solid rhythm tracks created by Jones. After the break up of The Verve, Jones would later re-emerge playing bass and writing songs for the short lived UK band The Shining, who would release just one album in 2002.

After that band's demise in 1999, Salisbury played with various bands including Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Salisbury now runs and owns a drum shop, Drummin', in Stockport, England. He currently resides in Buxworth, Derbyshire with his wife Pam, sons Ben and Isaac, and step son Joe. He also played drums on all Richard Ashcroft solo albums.
